Christians have
no problem to accept that the Lord Jesus Christ is God. However, if any one
comes by and says that the Bible does not say that Jesus Christ is God;
Christians are stunned and have no answer. Christians must know that the Bible
is filled with evidences to show that Jesus Christ is God. Study the fact that
Jesus Christ is God from the Bible.
Let us see a
little preview about the Lord Jesus Christ. The Word was God.
"John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God." He was made flesh, just
a man, Jesus of Nazareth. "John
1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and
dwelt among us."
Flesh is not God, so also Jesus of Nazareth. He was not God, but just a
man. He was crucified, dead, buried, resurrected, ascended to heaven and at
heaven he was made Lord and Christ. "Acts
2:36
let all the house of Israel know
assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord
and Christ."
That is, he is the Lord Jesus Christ only after his resurrection. And,
God the Father (at verse 8) and the Holy Ghost (at verse 9) pronounced him as
God. "Heb 1:8
unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O
God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the
sceptre of thy kingdom. 9
Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even
thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows."
At this point, the Lord Jesus Christ became
God, even though now he carries the image of a man.
1.
The Lord Jesus Christ was the Creator
Let us go to
the beginning. The creator of the universe is God. He is three Souls in one
Spirit. The three Soul persons of God are (1) the Most High God, (2) God the
Word, and (3) the Spirit of God. All three persons are in one Omnipotent Spirit
and he is one God. He has created all that exists. Let us see the creation
verses from the scriptures. "Gen
1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven
and the earth. 2
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the
deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."
Verse 1 says God created and verse 2 says the
Spirit of God moved upon creation. After this, one God said to the other God to
create and the other God created it. That is, God the Most High said to
create, God the Word created them and the Spirit of God was also in it.
Here, let us see the gist of the creation record.
"Gen 1:3
God said, Let there be light: 4
God divided the light. 6
God said, Let there be a firmament
7
God made
the firmament
9
... God said,
let the dry land appear:
10
God called
the dry land Earth; 14
God said, Let there be lights 16
God made two great lights
20
God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that
hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth ...
21
God created
great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought
forth
and every winged fowl after his kind:
24
God said,
Let the earth bring forth the living creature
25
God made
the beast of the earth after his kind,
26
And God said, Let us make man in our image,
27 So God
created man
"
Here we see that one God said and the other
God made. The Spirit of God was in it. Thus God created all things.
The Old Testament says that God said and God created
it, but it neither says which God said nor which God created it.
"Eph 3:8
I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable
riches of Christ; 9
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the
beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus
Christ:"
The New Testament says it clearly that God the
Father said it and Jesus Christ created it, which indicates that the Lord Jesus
Christ was God even at the very beginning.

2.
The Bible
verses that shows the Lord Jesus Christ is God
This is the statement of Job from Old Testament.
"Job 19:25
I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he
shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
26 And though
after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall
I see God:"
The Lord Jesus Christ is the redeemer for the whole world.
And, the verse says that the redeemer is God.
"Titus 2:14
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all
iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." So, the Lord Jesus Christ is God.
"Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be
upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The
mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
Isaiah refers the Lord Jesus Christ as the
Mighty God as he prophesies from his birth as a baby boy to the everlasting end.
"Matt 1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and
they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God
with us."
God will be with all his people all the time
until the end. This is fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ after his
resurrection. "Matt
28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them,
saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth...
20 ... lo, I am
with you alway, even unto the end of the world."
After his resurrection he is omnipresent and the Lord
Jesus Christ is God.
"Acts 7:59
And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying,
Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
60 And he
kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin
to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep."
Here is the account of the death of Stephen,
the first martyr. Looking unto heaven, he calls God as the Lord Jesus, which is
proof that the Lord Jesus Christ is God.
The Bible repeatedly points out that our Saviour is
the Lord Jesus Christ. "Luke
2:11 For unto you is born this day in the
city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
Again it points out that the Saviour is God.
"1 Tim 2:3
this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
Luke 1:47
my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour."
Here, the Bible says that the Lord Jesus Christ is
God.
"Titus 2:10
but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God
our Saviour in all things
. 13
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great
God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;" God our
Saviour is referred here as Great God. That is, the Lord Jesus Christ is Great
God.
The Lord Jesus Christ visits Apostle John at the
island of Patmos and identifies himself as 'the Almighty'.
"Rev 1:8
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending,
saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the
Almighty. Rev
4:8
they rest not day and night, saying,
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to
come." The same Jesus Christ is also called
Lord God Almighty. "Rev
15:3 they sing
the song of the Lamb,
saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty;
just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
"1
John 5:7 For there are three that bear record
in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three
are one." At the end of the New Testament, it
is revealed that the Lord Jesus Christ has become the Word.
"John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
The Word is God and so, the Lord Jesus Christ
is God. "Rev
19:13 And he was clothed with a
vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God
15
he shall
rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness
and wrath of Almighty God."
Here we see that the Lord Jesus Christ is the
Word of God is the Almighty God.
God the Father gave all judgments to the Lord Jesus
Christ. "John
5:22 the Father judgeth no man, but hath
committed all judgment unto the Son," Lord
God Almighty is the judge. "Rev
16:7 Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and
righteous are thy judgments." That is,
the Lord Jesus Christ is God. "Rev
19:1 And after these things I heard a
great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory,
and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:
2 For true and
righteous are his judgments: 5
And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye
his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.
6 And I heard as it
were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the
voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent
reigneth." Many verses repeated the fact that
Jesus Christ is God.
"Rev 11:15
the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The
kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his
Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
16 And the four and
twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and
worshipped God, 17
Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and
wast, and art to come." They worship God the
Father as well as the Lord Jesus Christ as God.
The Lord God has sent his angel to convey the message,
verse 6. Then he says that the Lord God in the Lord Jesus Christ, verse 16. The
Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord God. "Rev
22:6 .. he said unto me, These sayings
are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets
sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must
shortly be done. 16
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in
the churches."

3. Ending
(1) We must have
faith and hope in God the Father, who raised Jesus Christ from death and gave
him glory, so that we may also be raised in such a fashion on that day.
"1 Peter 1:21
Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead,
and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God."
(2) God the
Father is above all, even above the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. He is
the God Most High. "1
Cor 15:28 And when all things shall be
subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put
all things under him, that God may be all in all.
Luke 8:28
When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice
said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high?
I beseech thee, torment me not."
(3) The
enemies of the gospel may bring anything to confuse the issues. The word of God
is very clear in pointing that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord. As servants we
must love him. That is, we must obey his commandments. "John
14:15 If ye love me, keep my
commandments. 23
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will
keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him,
and make our abode with him."
We must have
faith and hope in God the Father, follow the guidance of the Holy Ghost, and
obey the commandments of the Lord Jesus Christ.
